Home Services Freeze-Protection Walkdown

A straight read on your freeze protection

Mission-Ready Freeze Protection.

Walk your heat trace system with a crew that has no cable brand to sell. You get the truth about what’s at risk before winter finds it — and if nothing’s wrong, we’ll tell you that too.

01What a walkdown is

Circuit by circuit,
with your team

A walkdown is the first honest look at your freeze protection: we walk the system with you — cold-weather-critical circuits, panels, insulation, controls — and give you a straight read on what’s at risk and what’s worth a closer look.

It isn’t an audit, and it isn’t a sales visit. There’s no report to buy and no quote waiting at the end unless you ask for one. Because Patriot doesn’t sell a cable brand, the findings don’t steer you toward a product line — they’re just the condition of your system, told plainly.

If what we see warrants a comprehensive audit, we’ll tell you exactly what that looks like. If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that too — and you’ll know where you stand before winter, either way.

“If it isn’t worth your time, we’ll say so. A walkdown that ends with ‘you’re in good shape’ is a good walkdown.”

The standing rule our crews walk in with
02Why it matters

The failures a walk-by
won’t catch

Heat trace doesn’t fail where you can see it. The cable looks fine right up until the first hard freeze takes a line out — because the failure modes that matter are invisible from the walkway.

Failure Mode 01

Insulation resistance drifts toward zero

A circuit degrades electrically season over season while looking untouched. Only a meter sees the drift — and by January, the drift is an outage.

Failure Mode 02

Connections corrode under the lagging

Moisture finds splices and terminations beneath the insulation jacket. From outside, the line looks sealed. Underneath, the connection is already failing.

Failure Mode 03

Controllers slip out of band

Setpoints wander, sensors fall out of calibration, alarms silently stop meaning anything. The panel says everything’s fine — the panel is wrong.

You can’t document a condition you can’t see. A walkdown identifies where these risks live in your system — and where testing would prove the difference between “looks fine” and “is fine.”

03The deliverable

What you walk away with

01

A straight, vendor-neutral read

What’s at risk, what’s aging, what’s fine — spoken plainly while we’re standing at the equipment, not buried in a proposal three weeks later.

02

The priorities, ranked

Which circuits deserve attention before the first hard freeze, which can wait until spring, and which need a meter on them to know for sure.

03

A clear next step — or a clean bill

If a comprehensive audit is warranted, you’ll know exactly what it covers and why. If your system’s in good shape, you’ll hear that in plain English — and we part as friends.

04Two different tools

The walkdown starts it.
The audit proves it.

The Walkdown

Eyes on the system, with your team
  • Cold-weather-critical circuits identified and walked
  • Visible risk conditions flagged in real time
  • Controls, panels, and insulation condition reviewed
  • Straight verbal read + ranked priorities
  • 60–90 minutes · free · scheduled around your operations
The Diagnostic

The Comprehensive Audit

The evidence an auditor can hold
  • Every circuit megger-tested for the silent failures
  • Complete as-built record, documented digitally on-site
  • Insulation-resistance results — dated, retained, trendable
  • Controller setpoints verified against design
  • The documentation compliance asks for, done once and done right

For NERC-registered generators: EOP-012-3 carries annual inspection and documentation requirements now, with a hard implementation deadline of October 1, 2027. The walkdown is where most plants find out where their documentation actually stands.
