Who Does Heat Trace Work
for New England Plants?
Patriot Thermal Controls is a heat trace and freeze protection contractor based in Warwick, Rhode Island. We audit, install and repair electric heat trace and the insulation over it, and we do the electrical work with our own licensed crews.
Most of our New England work is at gas-fired power plants, where a frozen instrument line or a dead circuit on a water line can take a unit offline on the coldest night of the year. We also work at biomass and renewable natural gas plants, chemical plants, a medical-device site and a hospital.
Every circuit we test goes into a record we keep year to year. The next audit starts from last year’s readings, so a circuit that is slowly failing shows up before it fails.
New England is home, but it isn’t the limit. Our crews have worked in 20+ states, Texas included.

What Kinds of New England
Plants Have We Worked In?
From our billing records. We don’t name customers on this site without their permission, so these are counts by plant type and state.
Gas-Fired Power Plants
Combined-cycle plants and peaking units. Freeze protection on water, condensate and instrument lines, audits ahead of winter readiness reviews, and repairs on what the audits find.
TEST: MEGGER, EVERY CIRCUITBiomass & Renewable Gas
Biomass generating stations and a renewable natural gas plant at a landfill. Outdoor process piping, condensate and water lines.
TYP: PROCESS + WATER LINESGenerating Fleet
Heat trace work for a New Hampshire generating company that runs several stations and combustion turbine sites.
TYP: MULTI-SITE PROGRAMChemical Manufacturing
Specialty and commodity chemical plants, where product lines have to hold temperature as well as stay above freezing, and the safety showers can’t freeze.
TYP: TEMP-MAINTAIN + FREEZEMedical-Device Manufacturing
Heat trace work at a medical-device plant, scheduled around a regulated production line.
TYP: SCHEDULED ACCESSHospital
Heat trace work at a Connecticut hospital, a building that can’t shut down while we work.
TYP: OCCUPIED FACILITYWe also work for electrical and mechanical contractors and design-build firms on their jobs in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine. If heat trace is on your winter list and you’d rather not staff it, send us the scope.
What Changes When the Same
Crew Audits Every Year?
Each audit was compared against the one before it. Repairs were checked against the record, and circuits that kept failing got repaired instead of found again the next fall. How the audit works →
Audit, Repair, Install, Monitor.
Every circuit tested and written up before the first hard freeze, compared with last year’s readings.

New England Plants.
Do you only work in New England?
No. We’re headquartered in Warwick, RI, and our crews have worked in 20+ states, including Texas. New England is where we’re closest, so it’s where we can usually get to a plant fastest.
When should a plant schedule its heat trace audit?
Late summer or early fall, before the first hard freeze. That leaves time to repair what the audit finds while the weather still allows it. Plants with a winter readiness review usually want the audit done and written up before that review.
Do you work for contractors and engineering firms?
Yes. Electrical and mechanical contractors and design-build firms bring us in for the heat trace and insulation scope on their jobs. Engineers can find spec support and testing standards on our audit page.
What do you need from us for a quote?
The facility, the systems involved and your timeline. Drawings, a circuit list or last year’s audit help if you have them, and we can work without them. Start here, or call 401-932-9159.
